Opinion or Judgement? The fine line that exists.

Hello you all.

I thought people would ask me questions or post their thoughts as comments but, nothing. Is it that my posts are something not hitting the chords right or that you don't agree what I say/feel? Well, it has to be one of that or maybe something else. Let me say this, your comments matter. Not because I would write what pleases you or make 'your' opinion/ judgement mine (common! This blog is probably the ONLY place where I am myself and I do/write what I feel is CORRECT.  I have my own voice, just like you). But, I am open for suggestions and it would just encourage me to write more. Maybe one day I could share my views on something you want to talk about. Maybe.

Well for today, I would have continued with 'The French Window' but instead, I want to talk about Opinions. I noticed that there is a pattern here that seems to have emerged on its own of, alternating the diary excerpts with talking about a random topic the next day.

So today, Opinions. Rather I would say my opinion on ‘’having an opinion’’.

Someone once said to me, ‘’ the purpose of having an opinion should be to improve it, and NOT holding onto it.'' Now, this was a long time back when I guess I wasn’t even sure that I was able enough to have an opinion of my own. But having an opinion is probably the most natural phenomenon for any human; we create opinions all the time, no subject that I can imagine is, exempt of this phenomenon of human nature.

When you work in a team, it’s a community and you have to respect certain norms; you can’t interrupt while someone else talks, you can’t ‘think out loud’ and you have to take everyone else’s views and perspectives into account and then come to some sort of a cumulative decision. But that does NOT mean that you can’t have your own ideas and thoughts? You very much can. Everyone does. But again, that does not give us the right to think of our opinion to be superior. How many times have you criticized the opinions of others? Let me answer that for you; all the time! So why not question your own? Opinions really shouldn’t be overrated, ultimately they tell a lot, if not most about the person then, a thing or two about the subject. In my view, an opinion is just an individuals’ take on the world. And if one really tried to understand something as big as the ‘’world’’, being flexible with one’s opinions is most likely a wise choice to make.

At times most of us, and I am going to count myself in this too, mistake having an opinion with being stubborn. I do not want to dramatize here but, during most of these times and history has enough proof, being stubborn doesn’t have a big impact. We become extremists. Perceiving the ‘world’ in our own stubborn way. But in the end, any extremist is just another person unwilling to reflect upon his own opinions and beliefs. And I guess it is not imperative for me to explain what extremist opinions and beliefs are capable of, as said before examples can be found throughout history. Your history.

We also mistake opinions with Judgments.

Now I have read and dealt with a lot of ‘judgements’ and their confusion with 'opinions' leading to believing in an absolutely inaccurate Fact. Judgment is got to be black or white. There is not ‘grey’ when the judge decides on a death sentence. But, he makes his judgment based on the ‘’opinions’’ put forth by the defending lawyer and the public prosecutor, which I must say, are based on certain ‘’facts’’.
‘’She finally has a blog of her own’’. Fact
‘’I think she writes well’’. Opinion, which could have been drawn by a keen observation.
‘’Is she out of her mind? Who is she to tell me how should I think?’’. Judgement.

See the difference? Having a judgment is not wrong. It is the impact it would have on the one being judged, is what matters. A negative judgment could kill an innocent while a positive could prevent further injustice. So think whether what you are thinking is your opinion/ judgment. Because there is nothing wrong in ‘’having an opinion’’.
Does any of that made sense? Or do I need a reality check? Well, I would know only if you guys comment/like/share.

Let’s make this ‘perfect’ world make more sense with better Judgments.

Love.
